How to Setup Outgoing Mail on Port 587

Overview

Megabytes recommends the use of port 587 for outgoing mail (SMTP). By using port 587, you can bypass spam controls put in place by certain ISPs.

Instructions for Mozilla Thunderbird

  • In the Tools menu select Account Options
  • At the bottom of the account list, click on Ougoing Mail Server
  • Click Edit on the right side
  • In the port box, change 25 to 587 as shown below

  • Click OK twice

Instructions for Microsoft Outlook 2007

  • In the Tools menu select Account Settings
  • Click on the account you wish to update
  • Click Change
  • Click More Settings
  • Click the Advanced tab
  • Change the outgoing port from 25 to 587 as shown below
