MegabytesOne Email
Quick Setup
- Choose POP or IMAP, whichever you prefer.
- Mail server (Incoming and Outgoing): mail.yourdomain.com (substituting your domain name)
- Universal mail server (usable before your DNS settings propagate): mail.megabytesdedicated.com
- User name is your complete email address
- Authorization IS required for sending mail (SMTP Server/Outgoing mail)
- Outbound email server (SMTP) should be set to use port 587
With MegabytesOne you have both POP and IMAP email. Understanding the difference will help you decide which option is best for you. The choice between POP and IMAP only applies to the configuration of your computer, there are no administrative changes or options to choose between the two.
POP Mail
POP mail is downloaded to your computer when you check your mail. The mail client (i.e. Thunderbird) will download the messages from the mail server and store them on your computer.
Features of POP Mail
- Access your email when you are offline using your email client
- Does not require storage space on the server for downloaded messages
IMAP Mail
IMAP mail acts the same way, but messages are never downloaded to your computer, they are instead kept on the mail server and accessed via your mail client. This allows you to access your mail from any computer at any time using WebMail. It also requires that your mailbox never exceed the space limitation imposed by the administrator, so you must remember to delete messages – especially those with large attachments – when you are finished with them.
IMAP is also useful if you use more than one computer and would like to configure more than one email client to check your email. Using IMAP, you'll have access to all of your mail from any number of computers without having to set additional options or worry about what mail you've already read.

Setting Up Your Mail Client
Documentation is available for the three most common email clients, Mozilla Thunderbird, Windows Mail, and Outlook 2007. This documentation and the screen shots featured were written specifically for Microsoft Windows Vista and Microsoft Office 2007, if you are using a previous version of Windows or Office, the documentation may not be correct for that version, contact the software manufacturer for additional assistance.
