A reload is the complete erasure of your hard drive, followed by a clean install of your Operating System (such as Windows 7), then the installation of any programs.
Your hard drive will be erased as part of the reload process, however, Megabytes will copy your Windows Profile, or in the case of Mac OS X, your home folder, to another hard drive. This will save your My Documents, My Music, My Pictures, and other data. If you store data in another location, you must specify this location to the technician before the reload is begun to ensure the data is not lost.
A reload is somewhat of a “cure-all” for a computer that has been seriously infected with a virus, has severe system file corruption, or other problems that cannot be fixed without a reload, or would take significantly more time than a reload.
Depending on what you can supply the technician with, your PC will basically be exactly as it was when you brought it home from the store. With the exception of your data will be loaded in My Documents. All available Windows Updates (or Mac System Updates) will be completed. If you purchased an AVG Anti-Virus license from Megabytes, your AVG software will also be restored for you.
Megabytes will utilize the factory restore feature (if equipped), or use the discs provided to load all software back on your PC. You will then need to install any programs you purchased since buying your PC that were not provided on CD/DVD to Megabytes.
Without OEM discs, Megabytes cannot load the software that your PC came with. Your PC will be loaded with the Operating System (such as Windows 7) that it holds a license for. Any additional software will have to be installed manually.
Depending on the PC, the Operating System version, and several other factors, it typically takes between six and twelve hours to fully reload a PC. For this reason, Megabytes charges flat fees for system reloads. Contact your Megabytes representative for pricing.
